The difference between Laser and IPL hair removal

The key difference between laser and IPL is the type of light. IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a broadband pulsed light source, whereas laser is a monochromatic coherent light source. Both methods target the melanin in the hair follicle and permanent results can be achieved from both. Professional laser treatment is working much more selective and therefore the very high energy will focus on the hair follicle rather than surrounding skin. Therefore Professional laser will lead to faster results as well as being suitable to and safer for darker skin tones. Energy, frequency and hair colour are all determining factors in the efficacy of the treatment, the light source from a laser is by far the more effective treatment as it specifically and safety targets the hair.

Northampton Laser Clinic only use high end Medical Grade Lasers. Treatments will take longer in each session as each pulse of light is smaller but targeting the hair directly. Ultimately you typically need less treatments as each treatment is so thorough specifically and scientifically targeting the hair. To put this in real terms:- we will take approximately 45 minutes to one hour just to treat lower legs. Other places will quote for treating a ‘Full body’ in 90 minutes. We do not believe it is safe practice to treat ‘Full body’ as it is too much for you the patient in one session and risks a histamine release if treatment so excessive. A cliche springs to mind ‘quality over quantity’ and of course ‘safety first and always’.
